Peel oranges so that the white skin is completely removed. Cut out fillets between the parting skins. Squeeze juice out of the leftovers of the oranges. Cut the pomegranate in half and knock out the seeds.
Cut figs into slices. Pour prepared fruit into a litre measure. Fill to 1 litre with orange juice. Pour into a high saucepan. Mix with jam sugar, cinnamon sticks and star anise. Bring to the boil while stirring, then boil for 4 minutes until bubbly.
Pour hot into carefully prepared glasses and close well.
