Braised sauerkraut with apples

Ingredients

Servings: 20
  • 250 g Onions
  • 6 TABLESPOONS Oil
  • 2 TABLESPOONS + some sugar
  • 4-5 can(s) (à 850 ml) Mild sauerkraut
  • 2–3 Bay leaves
  • 1 str. tablespoons juniper berries
  • 7-10 Tbsp Salt
  • 7-10 Tbsp Pepper
  • 0?a apple juice
  • 1.2 kg Apples (e.g. red peel)

Directions

    Peel and chop the onions. Fry in a large pot in hot oil. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sugar over it, let it melt. Add cabbage, bay leaf and juniper. Season with salt and pepper. Fry for 15-20 minutes.

    Add juice, bring to the boil, cover and stew for about 45 minutes. Stir from time to time.

    Wash apples, quarter them, remove seeds and cut them into slices. Stir into the cabbage halfway through the braising time. Season cabbage with salt, pepper and sugar. Fits to Kasseler or neck.
