Clean and wash the carrots and cut them lengthwise into slices about 1/2 cm thick. Cut out small stars (about 2 cm long) from the slices. Bring the tomato consommé to the boil, add the carrot stars, cover and cook over a medium heat for about 10 minutes. Clean, wash and cut the leek into pieces of about 5 cm length. Cut the leek pieces into fine sticks. Add the sticks to the consommé about 5 minutes before the end of the cooking time and cook them. Season soup with salt and pepper to taste, arrange in soup bowls and serve
