Finely dice the dried tomatoes. Peel and finely dice the onions. Heat the oil, fry the onion and diced tomatoes for about 5 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar, caramelise briefly. Deglaze with vinegar, bring to the boil and dissolve caramel in it
Add tomatoes, bring to the boil, chop with a spatula, season with salt, pepper and cloves to taste. Simmer for about 5 minutes. Leave the sauce to cool and chill at least overnight.
