Marinated fried herrings

Ingredients

Servings: 4
  • 200 ml Wine vinegar
  • 6 Allspice seeds
  • 1 TABLESPOON Peppercorns
  • 1 TABLESPOON Mustard seeds
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 pinch Sugar
  • 2 Onions (e.g. red)
  • 4 herrings ready for cooking (approx. 200 g each)
  • 7-10 Tbsp juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 7-10 Tbsp salt, pepper
  • 4 TABLESPOONS Flour for turning
  • 2-3 TABLESPOONS Oil
  • 100 g Dill slices (pickled cucumber slices; from the jar)

Directions

    bring vinegar, 1/8 l water, spices and sugar to the boil and allow to cool

    Peel onions and cut them into rings. Wash herrings and pat dry. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Season inside and outside with salt and pepper. Turn in flour and tap off a little

    Heat the oil in a frying pan. Fry the herrings for 5-6 minutes on each side. Drain on kitchen paper

    Layer herrings, onions and cucumber slices in a bowl. Pour the marinade over them, cover and leave to marinate for about 2-3 days. Fried potatoes or fresh farmhouse bread taste good with it
