Put cane sugar, sugar and vinegar in a high pot and bring to the boil. Simmer for 12-14 minutes at medium heat. Then stir in food colouring. In the meantime, wash apples thoroughly, rub dry and twist out the stalks. Insert wooden sticks into the base of the stalks.
Remove sugar syrup from the stove. Dip apples several times into the mixture (must be done relatively quickly as the mixture becomes firm). Put the apples on oiled aluminium foil and let them dry. Results in 6 pieces
