Whether the chili sauce in which the gyros stews really becomes "hellishly hot" is something you can decide for yourself when you pepper it. Cheese crackers will definitely make it a party hit!

Ingredients

Servings: 6
  • 3 Peppers (e.g. green, yellow and red)
  • 500 g Mushrooms
  • 2 large onions
  • 150 g Gherkins
  • 1 kg Gyros meat (fresh food counter)
  • 1 can(s) (à 850 ml) Tomatoes
  • 250 ml Tomato and chilli sauce
  • 7-10 Tbsp Salt
  • 7-10 Tbsp Cayenne pepper
  • baking paper
  • 1 pck (400 g each) fresh pizza dough
  • 2 TEASPOONS Rosemary needles
  • 125 g Parmesan (finely grated)
  • 1-2 TABLESPOONS Olive oil

Directions

  1. 1

Clean, wash and chop the peppers. Mushrooms clean, wash and, depending on size, halve or quarter them. Peel and halve onions and cut into strips. Cut cucumbers into slices.

  2. 2

Mix everything with meat, tomatoes and chilli sauce in a large ovenproof pot. Season with salt and cayenne pepper. Cover and braise in a preheated oven (electric cooker: 200 °C/circulating air: 175 °C/gas: see manufacturer) for approx. 1 1⁄2 hours. Remove the lid approx. 20 minutes before the end of the braising time and cook open to the end. Season to taste. Serve with rosemary cheese taler (see recipe above). Tsatsiki tastes good with it.

  3. 3

Roll out the pizza dough and cut out approx. 18 circles (each approx. 8 cm Ø). Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Sprinkle with rosemary needles and finely grated Parmesan and drizzle olive oil over it. Bake in a preheated oven (electric cooker: 200 °C/circulating air: 175 °C/gas: see manufacturer) for approx. 12 minutes. Let it cool down.

  4. 4

The dough circles can also be easily cut out with a glass or cup.
