Cut bread into very thin slices. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Fry the slices of bread until golden brown. Peel the cucumber, halve it lengthwise and cut it into slices. Wash, clean and slice the tomatoes.
Peel onions and cut into thin rings. Mix vinegar, salt, pepper and sugar. Fold in 3 tablespoons of oil. Peel garlic and chop finely. Wash the chives, dab dry and cut into small rolls. Stir garlic and chives into the marinade. Mix in tomatoes, cucumber and onions. Season to taste again. Arrange bread slices and salad on plates.
