Line the recesses of a muffin tray (12 recesses) with 1-2 baking cups each. Mix flour, baking powder and baking soda in a bowl. Whisk ##egg## in a large mixing bowl. Add sugar, vanilla sugar, oil and buttermilk and whisk briefly with the whisk of the hand mixer. Add flour mixture and fold in carefully. Stir only until the dry ingredients are moist.
Spread the dough evenly into the hollows of the muffin tray. Bake in the preheated oven (electric cooker: 175 °C/ convection oven: 150 °C/ gas: level 2) for approx. 20 minutes. Remove from the oven, place on a grid and allow to cool in the wells for approx. 15 minutes. Then remove from the wells and place on a cake rack to cool. Stir icing sugar and 3-4 tbsp. water until smooth. Halve the icing. Colour half with red food colouring. Spread half of the muffins with red icing and the remaining half with white icing. Pour the remaining red icing into a piping bag. Cut out 3 crosses (4 cm long, 1 cm wide) and 3 hearts from edible paper with a small, sharp, pointed pair of scissors (otherwise it will break!). Cut a small tip off the piping bag.
