Minced steaks Athenian style

Ingredients

Servings: 4
  • 1 small vegetable onion (approx. 180 g)
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 300 g Tomatoes
  • 250 g Cucumber
  • 250 g Peppers
  • 1 (approx. 200 g) small romaine lettuce
  • 600 g Minced beef
  • 1 egg (size L)
  • 7-10 Tbsp Salt
  • 7-10 Tbsp Pepper
  • 7-10 Tbsp Rose peppers
  • 2-3 TEASPOONS dried oregano
  • 8-10 Tbsp Olive oil
  • 3 TABLESPOONS Greek brandy (e.g. Metaxa)
  • 200 ml clear broth (instant)
  • 125 g Whipped cream
  • 30-40 g small, black olives
  • 4 TABLESPOONS Wine vinegar
  • 7-10 Tbsp Lemon and fresh oregano

Directions

    Peel the vegetable onion and cut one half into half rings. Dice 1/3 of the remaining half finely and cut 2/3 into rough cubes. Peel garlic and press it through a garlic press. Wash tomatoes, cucumber and paprika, drain and cut roughly into pieces. Clean, wash, drain and cut lettuce into strips. Knead minced meat, egg, fine diced onion, garlic, some salt, pepper, paprika powder and about 2 teaspoons of dried oregano in a bowl.

    Form 8 flat, oval steaks with moistened hands. Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan and fry the steaks for about 6 minutes, turning them over. Remove the steaks from the pan. Fry the diced onions in hot frying fat. Season with pepper and some dried oregano and deglaze with brandy, broth and cream. Bring sauce to the boil and simmer for about 1 minute. Place the minced steaks in the sauce, add olives and braise for another 2-3 minutes. Mix vinegar, some salt and pepper in a bowl. Fold in 5-7 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix paprika, tomatoes, cucumber, onion strips and lettuce with the vinaigrette and arrange in small bowls. Arrange the minced steaks with the sauce in a bowl.

    Bring sauce to the boil and simmer for about 1 minute. Place the minced steaks in the sauce, add olives and braise for another 2-3 minutes. Mix vinegar, some salt and pepper in a bowl. Fold in 5-7 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix paprika, tomatoes, cucumber, onion strips and lettuce with the vinaigrette and arrange in small bowls. Arrange the minced steaks with the sauce in a bowl. Serve garnished with lemon and fresh oregano. Tastes good with flat bread
