Halve the rutabaga, peel, wash and cut into cubes of about 1 cm. Heat the oil in a large, coated pan. Fry the diced turnip for approx. 12 minutes, turning and over a low heat. Season with salt. Fry over a high heat for another 3 minutes.
Add butter and let it melt. Sprinkle with sugar and let it caramelize. Season to taste with salt and pepper
