Halve the vanilla pod lengthwise and scrape out the pulp with the back of a knife. Knead butter, eggs, flour, nuts, baking powder, vanilla pulp and 2 tsp. spice with the dough hooks of the hand mixer to a smooth dough. Finally knead in the sugar. Cover the dough and chill for about 10 minutes.
Shape the dough with lightly oiled hands in portions into walnut-sized balls and place 5 balls in the middle of each heart shape in a preheated waffle iron and bake for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Let the cookies cool on a cake rack. Mix 1 tsp. spice with icing sugar and dust the cookies with it.
