Poor knights with stuffed dates (old roman style)

Ingredients

Servings: 4
  • 12 discs (à approx. 15 g) Baguette bread
  • 200 ml Milk
  • 12 large dates (about 20 g each)
  • 12 Almond kernels with skin
  • 3 TABLESPOONS Honey
  • 7-10 Tbsp Salt
  • 2 Eggs (size M)
  • 7-10 Tbsp freshly ground pepper
  • 7-10 Tbsp Grease

Directions

    Put the bread in a flat bowl. Warm the milk lukewarm. Sprinkle slices of bread with it. Leave to stand for 15-20 minutes until all the liquid is absorbed, turning once

    Cut dates lengthwise, remove seeds and fill with almonds. Place dates in an ovenproof dish, sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of honey. Bake in the preheated oven (electric cooker: 200 °C/ convection oven: 175 °C/ gas: level 3) for about 10 minutes. Remove the dates, sprinkle with salt and let them cool down

    Whisk the eggs in a deep dish. Turn the slices of bread in it and place them on a greased baking tray. Bake at the same temperature for another 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Remove and arrange on plates with the dates. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of honey and sprinkle with pepper. Serve with the dates
