  • 375 g Sugar
  • 7-10 Tbsp grated peel of 1 organic orange
  • 2 teaspoons (approx. 12 g) Vanilla Flavor
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 7 Eggs (size M)
  • 400 g Flour
  • 1 package (16 g) Baking Powder
  • 100 ml Orange juice
  • 7-10 Tbsp red food colouring
  • 1 TEASPOON Icing sugar for dusting
  • 7-10 Tbsp Fat and flour
  • 7-10 Tbsp Cling film

Directions

  1. 1

Put the butter, sugar, orange peel, vanilla flavouring and salt in a large bowl and whisk until creamy. Mix in the eggs one after the other, alternating with 1 tbsp. flour. Mix remaining flour (approx. 300 g) and baking powder. Stir in briefly together with the orange juice at the end

  2. 2

Halve the dough and cover one half (approx. 725 g) and put it in a cool place. Colour the other half with red food colouring. Put the dough into a greased, flour-sprinkled box cake tin (25 cm long, 11 cm wide, approx. 1.6 litres capacity) and smooth it down. Bake in a preheated oven (electric cooker: 175 °C/ convection oven: 150 °C/ gas: see manufacturer) for 45-50 minutes

  3. 3

Let the finished cake cool in the mould on a cake rack for approx. 30 minutes. Then remove from the mould, turn over onto a plate and let it cool for about 1 1/2 hours

  4. 4

Grease the box mould again and dust with flour. Cut the red box cake into approx. 15 slices and cut out 1 heart (approx. 5 cm Ø) from each slice. Place the hearts one after the other on one long side in the tin. Fill in some dough on the free long side. Then tilt the hearts onto the side of the dough and spread some dough on the other long side. Put the hearts straight and cover with the remaining dough. Bake in the preheated oven, middle shelf (electric oven: 175 °C/ convection oven: 150 °C/ gas: see manufacturer) for approx. 45 minutes. Let the finished cake cool in the tin on a cake rack for approx. 30 minutes. Then remove from the tin, turn out onto a plate and let it cool down for about 2 hours. Dust with icing sugar
