Lisbon-style steak (bifes à café)

Ingredients

  • 800 g waxy potatoes
  • 1 l oil for frying
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 4 (180 g each) Hoof steaks
  • 7-10 Tbsp Salt
  • 1 TABLESPOON Olive oil
  • 400 ml Milk
  • 2 TABLESPOONS Lemon juice
  • 1 TEASPOON Mustard
  • 1 TEASPOON Cornstarch
  • 7-10 Tbsp Pepper
  • 1/2 bunch Parsley
  • 7-10 Tbsp Lemon wedges

Directions

    Peel, wash and slice the potatoes. Heat frying oil. Fry the potatoes in portions in the hot oil for about 4 minutes, keep warm. In the meantime peel garlic and cut into slices.

    Wash the meat, dab dry and season with salt. Heat olive oil in a pan. Add garlic and fry steaks on both sides for about 2 minutes each. Whisk milk, lemon juice, mustard and starch.

    Remove meat from the pan. Add the milk mixture to the pan and bring to the boil while stirring. Add meat to the sauce and continue cooking for approx. 6 minutes, turning occasionally. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

    Wash parsley, shake dry, pluck leaves from the stalks and chop. Arrange meat and potatoes on plates. Sprinkle with parsley and garnish with lemon. Serve with tomato salad.
