Marzipan and poppy seed plait

Ingredients

  • 500 g Flour
  • 1/4 l Milk
  • 1 cube (42 g) Yeast
  • 1 TABLESPOON + 60 g sugar
  • 100 g Butter
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 egg (size M)
  • 200 g Marzipan raw mass
  • 1 package (250 g) Poppy seed bake
  • 2 TABLESPOONS Lemon juice
  • 150 g Icing sugar
  • 7-10 Tbsp a few drops of yellow, red and green food colouring
  • 7-10 Tbsp jelly belies
  • 7-10 Tbsp Flour
  • baking paper

Directions

    Pour the flour into a bowl and press a depression into it. Warm up the milk. Mix yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar and some milk. Pour into the bowl and sprinkle some flour from the rim over it. Cover and leave to rise in a warm place for about 15 minutes.

    Melt the butter. Add the remaining milk, butter, 60 g sugar, salt and egg and knead to a smooth dough with the dough hooks of the hand mixer. Cover and leave to rise for another 30 minutes in a warm place.

    Meanwhile, finely grate 175 g marzipan and knead with the poppy seed mixture. Roll out the yeast dough into a rectangle (35 x 40 cm) on a well floured work surface. Spread the dough with the poppy seed mixture, leaving an approx. 3 cm wide strip on one long side.

    Roll up the dough sheet from the coated long side. Cut the roll to one end, lengthwise. Twist both halves with the cut surface facing upwards (type: cord).

    Place the braid diagonally on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake in the preheated oven (electric cooker: 175 °C/ convection oven: 150 °C/ gas: level 2) for approx. 60 minutes. Cover if necessary 20 minutes before the end of the baking time.

    In the meantime, mix lemon juice and icing sugar. Halve 25 g marzipan. Colour one half orange with red and yellow food colouring. Colour the other half with green food colouring. Take the plait out of the oven.

    Immediately spread the icing evenly on top. Cut flowers and leaves from the marzipan and decorate the plait with them. Place Jelly Bellies in the flowers.
