Finely chop the almonds. Cut dates into fine strips. Grate chocolate. Sieve icing sugar. Beat egg whites until stiff, stir in icing sugar by the spoonful and continue beating for another 5-10 minutes. Fold in dates, almonds and chocolate.
Lay the wafers overlapping to form a rectangle (approx. 34x19 cm) and place a greased, adjustable aluminium form on top. Pour in the mixture and carefully smooth it down. Bake in the preheated oven (electric cooker: 150°C/ gas: level 1) for 2 1/2 -3 hours. Halve the almonds for decoration. Cut 2 dates into strips, remaining dates into slices. Remove Mazurek carefully from the edge with a sharp knife and let it cool down. Sieve the icing sugar and mix with orange liqueur, lemon juice and 2 tablespoons of water to a thin glaze. Cover Mazurek with the icing, decorate with dates and almonds and leave to dry. In the meantime, chop the chocolate and melt it on a hot water bath. Let it cool down a bit and put it into a small freezer bag. Cut off one corner and label and decorate the Mazurek with it.
