Ingredients

Servings: 1
  • 1 package Dry yeast
  • 1/2 l Milk
  • 125 g Butter or margarine
  • 100 g Sugar
  • 1 TEASPOON Salt
  • 7-10 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Egg
  • 7-10 Tbsp wooden skewers or needles

Directions

  1. 1

Mix flour and yeast in a bowl. Warm the milk. Mix fat, sugar and salt together. Add to the flour, work into a smooth dough and leave to rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.

  2. 2

Then knead again, form 2/3 of the dough into a roll and cut into 24 pieces. Roll a 1 cm thick and 20 cm long strand from each piece of dough. Now weave 12 strands of dough horizontally and 12 strands vertically to form a grid.

  3. 3

Spread a thin layer of oil on the outside of a stainless steel bowl (approx. 15 cm Ø and 6 cm high). Place the grid over the bowl and press it down lightly. Cut off protruding ends. Press firmly on the edge.

  4. 4

Divide the remaining dough into 3 pieces and form into rolls of approx. 50 cm length. Weave the rolls into a braid, then close them into a wreath. Place the bowl with the basket and the wreath on a greased baking tray.

  5. 5

Whisk the egg. Spread the basket and wreath with it. Bake both in the preheated oven (electric: 200 °C/ gas: level 3) for 30 minutes. Loosen basket and ring once, then let them cool down. Turn the basket over, put it together with the wreath and fix it with wooden skewers or needles.
