Wash the upper leg and pat dry. Rub with salt and pepper. Cut the bacon into cubes. Peel and finely dice onion. Wash apples. Heat oil in a roaster. Brown the meat in it and take it out.
Fry the onions and bacon in the frying fat. Add sauerkraut and apples. Add compote and deglaze with apple juice. Add laurel and juniper berries. Place turkey legs on the cabbage. Cover and braise in the preheated oven (electric cooker: 175 °C/ convection oven: 150 °C/ gas: level 2) for about 1 1/2 hours.
Pour on some water in between, if necessary. Remove the lid 15 minutes before the end of the cooking time. Boiled potatoes taste good with it.
