Pickled fried herrings

Ingredients

Servings: 4
  • 200 ml Wine vinegar
  • 6 Allspice seeds
  • 1 TABLESPOON Peppercorns
  • 1 TABLESPOON Mustard seeds
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 white and red onion
  • 4 herrings ready for cooking (approx. 200 g each)
  • 7-10 Tbsp juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 7-10 Tbsp Salt
  • 2 TABLESPOONS Flour
  • 2 TABLESPOONS Oil
  • 100 g Dill slices (pickled cucumber slices)

Directions

    Bring vinegar, 1/8 litre water, spices and bay leaves to the boil and let cool. In the meantime peel onions and cut them into rings. Wash herrings and dab dry. Sprinkle with lemon juice and season inside and outside with salt. Turn herrings in flour. Heat oil and fry fish for 2-3 minutes on each side. Drain on kitchen paper. Layer herrings, onion rings and dill slices in a bowl. Pour marinade over them and leave to soak for 1-2 days. Bread or boiled potatoes taste good with it
