Torrijas con fresas (Poor knights with strawberries)

Ingredients

Servings: 4
  • 1 untreated lemon
  • 500 g Strawberries, 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 8 discs White bread, 1/4 l milk (from the previous day)
  • 2 TABLESPOONS cream sherry
  • 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons of oil (e.g. olive oil)
  • 1/2-1 TEASPOON ground cinnamon

Directions

    Wash the lemon hot, squeeze half of it. Wash, clean and chop the strawberries. Mix with 1 tbsp. sugar and lemon juice

    Place bread side by side on a plate with a high rim. Warm the milk. Mix with 2 tablespoons sugar and sherry. Pour this over the bread and let it stand for 20-30 minutes until all the liquid is absorbed. Turn from time to time. Whisk eggs in a deep plate and turn the bread in it

    Heat the oil in portions in a coated pan. Fry the bread in the oil until golden brown. Mix cinnamon and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Turn the finished torrijas and keep warm. Cut the rest of the lemon into slices. Arrange torrijas with strawberries and lemon

    Drink: semi-dry sherry, for example Oloroso from Osborne
