Ingredients

Servings: 36
  • 1 Organic lemon
  • 75 g Butter
  • 100 g Sugar
  • 1 package Vanillin sugar
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 2 Eggs (size M)
  • 250 g Flour
  • 3 TSP Baking Powder
  • 100 ml Milk
  • 200 g Icing sugar
  • 7-10 Tbsp Food colouring
  • 7-10 Tbsp Sugar Eyes
  • baking paper
  • 7-10 Tbsp wooden sticks

Directions

  1. 1

Wash lemon hot and dab dry. Grate the peel. Halve the lemon and squeeze. Cream butter, sugar, vanillin sugar and salt. Stir in eggs one after the other. Mix flour, lemon peel and baking powder, alternately stir into the egg cream with the milk.

  2. 2

Using a teaspoon, place small heaps of the dough with sufficient distance between them on two baking trays lined with baking paper. Bake one after the other in a preheated oven (electric cooker: 175 °C/ convection oven: 150 °C/ gas: see manufacturer) for about 10-13 minutes. Let them cool down.

  3. 3

For the icing, sieve icing sugar into a bowl. Add 3 tablespoons lemon juice and some yellow food colouring and stir until smooth. Brush the smooth surfaces of the Mini Americans each with a little icing, decorate immediately with sugar eyes and let dry for about 10 minutes.

  4. 4

In the meantime colour the rest of the casting with orange food colouring. Dip wooden sticks into the cast and paint little beaks and legs on the chick Americans. Leave to dry. Store Chick Americans in a tin with an airtight lid.
