Ingredients

  • 200 g Marzipan raw mass
  • 100 g Butter or margarine
  • 50 g + 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 200 g Flour
  • 5 medium sized apples (about 200 g each)
  • 4 TABLESPOONS apple juice
  • 1 TABLESPOON Cornstarch
  • 1 TABLESPOON Lemon juice
  • 500 ml Milk
  • 1 package Dessert sauce "Vanilla Flavor"
  • 7-10 Tbsp Icing sugar
  • 7-10 Tbsp Grease
  • 7-10 Tbsp Cling film

Directions

    For the crumbles, crumble marzipan into a bowl. Add fat and 50 g sugar and mix. Add flour. Use the dough hooks of the hand mixer to knead the marzipan into crumbles and keep cool.

    Peel and quarter 4 apples and remove the core. Halve the quarter again and cut into pieces. Caramelise 2 tablespoons of sugar in a pot and add the apple pieces. Cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes.

    Mix apple juice and starch and stir into the compote. Simmer for 1 minute while stirring, then remove from heat and allow to cool. Fill approx. 2/3 of the crumbles into a greased round heat-resistant ceramic or porcelain mould (22 cm Ø) and press firmly, pressing up at the rim.

    Add compote to the dough. Wash 1 apple, cut in half and cut into thin slices. Sprinkle 2 slices with some lemon juice for decoration and put aside. Spread the remaining slices on the compote.

    Sprinkle the remaining crumbles over the cake and bake in a preheated oven (electric range: 200 °C/ convection oven: 175 °C/ gas: level 3) for approx. 35 minutes. Stir 6 tablespoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of sugar and sauce powder until smooth.

    Bring the rest of the milk to the boil. Stir the mixed powder into the milk and bring to the boil briefly. Cover the surface of the vanilla sauce with cling film and set aside. Heat 1 tablespoon of sugar and 4 tablespoons of water in a small pan and briefly steam the apple slices.

    Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the mould. Decorate with apple slices and dust with icing sugar. Serve the cake cold or lukewarm with the lukewarm vanilla sauce.
